AXA Advisors, LLC

Welcome to my Website,   Joseph P. Smith Jr.

As a Financial Consultant with AXA Advisors, I work with individuals, families and business owners to develop customized financial investment and wealth-management strategies that meet both short- and long term needs.

My primary focus is on providing guidance to health- care professionals working in the public and private sectors, who are finding themselves in the midst of a rapidly changing industry.  Through our consultative process, which recognizes the impact of the generational gap between experienced professionals and those at the beginning stages of their careers,  I can help you develop financial strategies based on your individualized goals and objectives.

My health- and medical- industry clients, today, have more responsibility than ever to their employers, their patients, and to their families.  I have a sound understanding of the important decisions that they face regarding complex benefit packages, financial planning, asset, management assets distribution and preservation strategies and risk mitigation.  And no matter where you fall on the career spectrum, I am deeply committed to helping you achieve your financial goals.

AXA Advisors enables me to help my clients by providing a large network of products and services.  Our open architecture platform allows me to tailor recommendations to your unique situation, We'll generally meet two to four times per year, and speak regularly by phone and via e-mail to monitor your progress and reconfirm goals.  I'll keep you apprised of recent market trends, and want to know of changes in your life that might affect your financial plan.  Fostering relationships that are built on trust is very important to me -- after all, your success is my success.

I was born and raised in Seattle, and currently reside in Shoreline, Washington with my beautiful wife Julie and sons Jackson and Maxwell.  I graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business Administration.  As an active resident of greater Puget Sound, I am involved with coaching youth basketball and am a community board member for Community Health Charities of Washington State.  When I have free time, I enjoy spending it with my family and participating in outdoor sports.

If you’d like to learn more, or know of someone who could benefit from my services, please call me anytime at (206) 956-6263.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Federal Estate Tax Is Much Lower — For Now

The federal estate tax was repealed in 2010, then reinstated by the 2010 Tax Relief Act with new provisions for 2011 and 2012. This article discusses the temporary provisions, the options for estates of 2010 decedents, and potential changes in future years that could subject many more estates to the federal estate tax than under current law.

Help Chart the Future of Your Family Business

The transition from one generation to the next is considered to be one of the biggest risks to the survival of a family-owned business. A thoughtful succession strategy not only outlines when and how ownership should be transferred but also takes tax implications, family relationships, and other sensitive issues into account.

Finding a Good Time to Invest

When a prominent stock market index closes above an important threshold, many investors who have been sitting on the sidelines may see it as good time to invest, but they may have missed a significant part of the rally. Waiting for the "right" moment to invest could prove to be a costly and ineffective strategy.

Retirement Plans for Small Businesses

With standard 401(k) plans, the amount a company's owners can contribute to their own retirement account is often restricted by how much other employees contribute to the plan. With the safe harbor option, owners may be able to make larger contributions for themselves in exchange for making tax-deductible contributions or "matches" for employees.
